BIOTECHNOLOGY TRAINING AND WORKSHOP

10 Days workshop on Molecular Biology Laboratory Tools & Techniques was conducted in association with Kerala Biotechnology Commission of Kerala State Council for Science Technology and Environment,Thiruvananthapuram from 27th July to 7th August, 2017 at Biotechnology Department, Union Christian College, Aluva. Eminent Scientists and Academicians took classes and conducted hands on training to the participants from various Universities and Colleges in Kerala. This workshop  provided a platform to interact with the experts in molecular biology and to have hands-on training on state of the art techniques. 20 participants (Faculty & research scholars)  from different colleges and universities  were attended the Biotechnology workshop/ training programme.

This project has been granted to Dr. Sareen Sarah John, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Biotechnology, under the scheme – Biotechnology Training and Workshop (BTW) program- by the  Kerala Biotechnology Commission of KSCSTE for an amount of Rs.1.50 lakhs.

ONGOING PROJECT

“Production of Bioethanol from Myristica  fragrans (KSCSTE Funded)

COMPLETED PROJECTS

UBCHEA funded project on “The Regenerator Organ and Their Rechargers” during the year  2014-2015 (Jyothilekshmi S)

UBCHEA funded project on the use of DNA fingerprinting as a molecular tool for the early diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease.

Our MSc Biotechnology students have been utilizing the facilities of our laboratories to do their MSc Projects in Biotechnology (e.g., Transformation, Transgenics, DNA fingerprinting), Microbiology (e.g., isolation and characterization of microbes), and Biochemistry (e.g., Analyses) from 2002 when the Biotechnology programme was started.
